Award Winners Home | catalogue page “Native Birds and Flowers of Australia” Such a proud day and such a surprise too.! Mum and Dad had moved to Canberra and this was mum’s and my first project working together in her newly appointed sewing room. My background in designing combined with mum's love for the Australian bush and her obsession for handwork led me to this inaugural quilt design for their new home. As each block was completed, we started to get the notion that it was going to be a very pleasing result and as naive new members to the Canberra Quilter’s mum thought…….”why not enter it?” So to cut a long story short…..it was a Show stopper!…….and obviously pleased the crowds. Mum and I were both doing volunteer work at the exhibition and were inundated with inquiries about who’s design was it? and where it was available as they could see it was “new” in the quilting world. We had no idea the “egg “had just been hatched for us! So from there we put together our first pattern, and December 2002, “Aussie Applique” was born and we have not stopped since. I always have a head full of ideas I want to explore and luckily combined with mum's sewing skills we have the expertise to take my designs and create new applique designs to keep you all quilting and sewing happily! Please check our site regularly or add your name to our guest book for “hot gossip” into new designs. Email us any questions you may have, tell us your story, or send us a picture of your finished quilt using one of our designs…….we love to see your work and personal flair with fabric and colour ….is always such a thrill. ~Pat and Helen Godden |

Title: "Savannahscapes" Description: A very heavily appliqued quilt. Lengths of fabric were created
first with lots of applique and quilted patterns. These lengths were then
cut and themselves appliqued to the base fabric, creating 3 landscape panels
depicting the colours and heat of the African Savannah. The beautifully marked
animals were featured and their decorative fur patterns emphasised through
raw edge reverse applique.
